Badrinath Dham

It is believed that Lord Vishnu selected the place for meditation and his companion, Lakshmi protected him from the cold weather in the form of Badri or berry tree. Lord Vishnu named this place Badrika Ashram, which later became Badrinath Dham. It is one most visited destination in the Dev Bhoomi or Uttarakhand.  The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his shrine is placed at the centre of the mandir. It is located along the banks of Alaknanda River at a height of 3,133m above sea level. This image of Lord Vishnu is made of black stone and is in the form of Badrinarayan. It is also believed that this is a self-manifested statue.

Puja and Darshan

Puja and darshan is allowed at specific timing during the year. The temple kapat is opened on the holy occasion of Akshay Tritiya and then the devotees could visit the shrine for next six months. The temple will open on the Akshay Tritiya Puja Mahurat 7th May, 2019. The devotees will be able to offer prayer for six long hours 5:30 am to 12.05 noon. The Chaardham yatra begins every year in the month of April or May and ends before winter in October. Different types of puja are performed at Sri Badrinath. The rituals and puja is preceded with a holy dip in Tapta kund. In the morning hour special pujas are arranged, such as Srimadhagwat path, Geeta path, Abhishek and Mahabhishek. Arti and Geet Govind are performed in the evening.

Darshan of Lord Vishnu or Badrinathji is organised by the temple committee.


Morning- the kapat Opens at 04.30 am with Shubh Prabhatam and then it is closed at 3pm.

Afternoon- the temple again opens at 4pm and closes at 9pm, soon after the completion of the divine song “Geet Govind”

The temple is closed for Bhog ceremony every day between 1pm and 3pm.
